Justice for Tina Fontaine March and Rally

February 24th, 2018

Northern FIRE participated in a nation-wide call for action regarding the death of Indigenous youth, Tina Fontaine. The rally, one of many taking place across Canada, took place after the man on trial for her murder was found not guilty. Organizers hoped to highlight the need for reforms in the systems that failed Tina Fontaine and many others like her.

“It is only through pressure from people like all of us here today that we’ll be able to give a voice to young girls like Tina and help put a spotlight on the need for changes required in the justice system, the police system and the child welfare system,

Reg Mueller, deputy tribal chief of the Carrier Sekani Tribal Council.

Successful Rally For Women’s Rights

On Saturday, January 21, 2017 dozens of people from the Prince
George area actively participated in a rally in support of the
Women’s March on Washington in Canada Games Plaza organized by Zoe Meletis. This was only one of six hundred marches that occurred globally that day. The rally was organized as a response to the inaugurated U.S. President Donald Trump. “It’s to stand together for equality, equity and women’s rights. This is just to remind everybody that our rights are always at risk”
